Leicester_H
Yesterday, after FRing, Smokie ran back in as normal but didn't eat the bribe of dried corn (see normally would 'kill' for this). So I tried her with dried meal worms - again, not interested. This morning, still not interested and standing hunched up (on ground rather than perch). So, off to vet. She took her temperature, which was 41 - which is 'very high even for a bird' as she put it - so has an infection. She has some food in the crop so she probably ate this morning before I got up. She gave her an injection of Baytril and gave us some to give orally, twice day for a week. She said to keep her calm (and away from other 2 just in case its infectious). She said she should respond within a few days (or not) - so fingers crossed (As luck would have it!, OH is going away with his mates for a few days on Thursday, so it would be difficult to get to vet after Wednesday) This all sounds plauable to me. So, I've left Smokie in the cat box on the kitchen table, with just some water for now (will give her some food later). She seems sleepy (but they do snooze a lot of the time) - but seems alert when I talk to her. So, some positive vibes to wish her better would be very welcome, please. Leicester_H
Thanks. She is in dog crate in Utility room at present - so I can monitor what she eats etc. She is a lot perkier but still not apparently eating her pellets - she is now tempted by dried meal worms - so on the mend I hope. Very impressed with Vet - I will get her name and post on her for anyone who can get to Oadby, Leicester. (Its Borrajo's surgery). H

Leicester_H
Hi She seems to be eating a few pellets now. She will now wolf down dried corn and dried meal worms (which she wasn't doing sun/mon) - but I'm not giving many as I want her to eat the pellets. I'm going to keep her indoors for a few more days - while she's still having the Baytril, so I can keep a close eye on her. Might keep her in until Monday as expect lots of fireworks Sat (and possibly Sunday) and vet said to keep her calm. I'm probably being over cautious, but it can't do any harm, can it ?? (She lives in an eglu and run, on her own outside, next to the eglu & run with Boo & Lily, as she got pecked badly - so there won't be any re-introduction problems when she does go back outside) H
Egghead68
Glad she's doing better. If she were mine I'd be inclined to offer her a range of foods until her appetite picks up properly.
