Hi

I'm going to be building a chicken pen & attaching my cube & run to it,I have already put in the base with sleepers & a thick wire skirt underneath and was going to make the side panels with normal chicken wire but was wondering if anyone had had any bad experiences with chicken wire eg how fox proof is it.

Thanks

Jacquie

My run is made from 16 gauge weldmesh and nothing has got through it so far  I have used normal chicken wire on post and rail fencing elsewhere in my garden to stop my dogs getting out of the garden and this has been chewed through by foxes, it was only the cheap stuff though.

I have my chucks on the allotment and with the advice of the forum i went with weldmesh from hills of devon(which was far the cheapest).

Other people on the allotment built runs with normal chicken wire and on many many occasions the foxes have got to their chickens. I have converted one person already to weldmesh and another is in the process of taking down there run and starting again - with weldmesh.

My girls are soo secure in it - so far i have never seen any fox damage to it even though last year there was fox prints in the snow. So I would go for weldmesh if you can it may save your girls and save u some time and money.

Good luck with your build!.
