memphisto
Hi all, I'm sorry if this is a really silly question. When I've got all my girls, they've been treated with louse and mite powder as I bought them. I've got my own powder at home but I am unsure how often I treat them, is it monthly, quarterly or more frequently? Sorry if I should already know this, no instructions on the tub for use
The Dogmother
I treat quarterly with a spot-on preventative and spray with the Johnson's anti mite spray if I see any crawlers. Never really have any problems with this regime and can't be bothered with powdering 13 squirmy hens.
memphisto
Thanks Dogmother I use a powder product from an agricultural supplier which was recommended but it assumes you know the regime for your animal! I handled them all regularly and *touch wood* haven't seen any creepy crawlies yet.
The Dogmother
It's best to keep up a regular inspection and treatment programme, they are much harder to get rid of than to avoid
chestnutmare
I give them a good powdering at least quarterly. But put de-lousing powder or diatom in their dustbath regularly - topping it up about twice a week. I've never had a problem so far.
memphisto
Hi Chestnutmare I used diatom in their dustbath too and in their bed. Where in Wales are you? Dogmother- I totally agree, prevention is the best medicine so to speak! Many thanks to you both
