clucky h
For several weeks now one of my hens - not sure which one, they both seem otherwise fine - has been passing lots of liquid as well as some poo. Should I be worried? They've had a busy few months - first an infestation of red mite, which seems to be gone now, then one had a full and extravagant moult (and hasn't laid since, but I don't think she laid much last winter either) and then a couple of weeks ago I wormed them. I think it's actually Merle, the hen who is laying, who is passing all the liquid, but I am not exactly sure. As I say, other than being a bit surly in the bad weather they are fine. It just seems, odd. Thank you!
The Dogmother
What are you worming them with? It's possible that she has an infection in her oviduct, if she's recently been wormed with Flubenvet then I'd take her to the vet.
clucky h
Thank you so much for your reply! I did worm them with Flubenvet, but the liquid pre-dated that by several weeks. An infection of the oviduct sounds nasty. I am anxious about taking her to the vet; where I live (not in the UK) vets don't know anything about chickens. Everything I have learned is from this forum. Do you have any idea what might be prescribed for such an infection? It might help if I can suggest it to them.
The Dogmother
If it's an infection, they'd probably recommend an antibiotic called Baytril.
