memphisto Posted December 2, 2011 Share Posted December 2, 2011 We had a record 10 eggs laid today and Penny (Black Rock) looked like she was going broody as she was wanting to sit on them all, so sent her out to get the wind up her knickers and she's sulking behind the compost bin now! Lottie, our beautiful White star seems to be very poorly, she's hunched up, she can move about but seems to be in pain, she's been on Baytril for 5 days since her vet visit about 2 weeks ago, she got better but now she's gone downhill very fast, she's refusing corn. She'll have a wander, then stop and hunch up. Whereas I never would normally be able to catch her, she just stands dead still now. Her wattles and comb have increased in size a lot and got redder but she isn't right at all. I am so worried about her, so we are off to the vet at 6. Her vent looks very red and sore and is sort of protruding (IYKWIM). I've got a fridge full of eggs now and have my posters up in the village, have had my first regular order put in too. My neighbour is taking 4 boxes on a Friday into work when the girls are laying. It's not much but I'm donating a % to BHWT, so it all helps. Updated just to say, Lottie has been to the vet, she was unable to walk there and was very unco-ordinated. He thinks she has an infection raging somewhere, so more Baytril, he has advised me if no improvement by next Thursday, I should strongly consider having her PTS if she still is as bad as she was today. She's to be kept away from the rest of the flock and he says she should spend nights inside (??) and to monitor her closely. Feeling very sad, come on Lottie, please get better! The Ex Batts went outside their pen for the first time today and the stayed in it with the door open for a while before cautiously walking around the garden and heading back in! memphisto Posted December 2, 2011 Author Share Posted December 2, 2011 She still appears to be a in a foul mood with me, I am not having broodiness in my coop! My neighbours have been great with my chooks but my recently acquired Gold Appenzeller has been flying off into their garden and causing a lot of noise, which they've had a moan about, not it a bad way as someone local had cockerels but I'm going to have to part with her unfortunately, she's flown away 3 times this week when stressed or startled and it took 4 passers by on Sunday to help me get her back. I am so sad, I haven't had her that long but I agree she is LOUD, I just don't feel I can offer her a decent home where she can be the breed bird she is. She is so attached to my Barnevelder, so I am not sure whether to put them for sale together or what. I have had several girlies that have been very flighty at first but calmed down after they have started to lay, so if she is still young I would hold out until that time in the hope that she mellows. I know baytril is good, but when my girls have been poorly the vet has given them two antebiotics to cover both bacterial and viral infections-worth asking maybe? Hope she gets better soon.
