Yesterday afternoon Florry was fine and had laid that morning ,then suddenly went under the hedge and had to be coaxed out. Very sorry for herself and looking so sad and lathargic The last time she did this was about 2 months ago when she had a soft egg (her first one)

This morning she came out of the coup ok for about 10 minutes and then suddenly would not move and stayed that way almost most of the morning and looking sad and unwell again . After about 3 hours she went into the nesting box and what she laid was a yolk intact, a bit of black , some white membraine and what looked like a shrivelled egg shell. Would this be a lash? I have looked at photos and not like them at all but I suppose they are all different.

She is now out of the nest box ,perkier and drinking and pecking (but not quite herself) and left shut in the WIR where I know she is safe..

Can anyone shed any light on this ?

I would keep an eye on her. It does make them feel poorly when they are about to lay a softie or a lash. As long as she perks up after laying, she is probably fine. Just watch for her not perking up again.

Could be some shell from a retained softie that she's passed with this one. They often eat the soft eggs when passed so it's not that easy to tell what is going on.

 

Like Snowy says keep an eye on her and her vent for any bits of shell or membrane to remove

Thanks for your advice, I thought it was a softy and then eventially it was all in bits which threw me .She seemed fine straight after but I will keep an eye on her. ..Funny how when she was under the hedge for ages the other 2 seemed to be protecting her , they barely left her side .
