Mum
Went out for a little chat with the girls earlier today and my Araucana was looking quite red around her eyes and the comb area. I know she is too young to lay ... yet! ... but then a few seconds later, she was back to pink again. Made me wonder ... .... do they have adolescent "flushes" or was she just blushing? lindafw
gosh never seen that. I guess they must have a build up of hormones towards POL so anything is possible
Mum
Yes, I did wonder if it was a hormonal thing - sort of like menopause in reverse?
lindafw
Shhhhhh don't mention the M word near me...I have been waking up very warm at night...it could be a temperature from the cough/cold virus I have had...couldn't it? Altho' given the other symptoms its probably...{glances around furtively}...the M word
ali-s
I have seen some of my Chickens" blush". It happened when they were moulting so their combs and wattles were quite pale, threw them some dried mealworms and their faces got redder as they ate the treat. Within a few minutes of scoffing the special treat the Chickens faces went paler again.
surfer_chicken
It's common when they're coming into lay. It's to do with their hormones. You can expect an eggy present soon How old is she?

Well, she hasn't developed her comb yet, so I'm not eggspecting much. She's about 5 months old now
lindafw
5 months is 20 weeks or there abouts... that's considered POL by sellers! The days are getting longer too (not that you would notice yet) so your eggspected arrival may be soon
