scubababe Posted December 31, 2011 Share Posted December 31, 2011 Hi all, I used to make my own bread but haven't for a few years as my 4 year old won't eat it....he prefers shop bought hovis or kingsmill style does anyone have a tried and tested yummy, couldn't tell the difference loaf recipe I could try. It is a reasonably firm loaf and I make it every day the night before, I wrap it in a tea towel and use it the following morning for sandwiches (for 4/5 people) . It is actually called a French Loaf and it also makes really good toast (just had a piece actually!) I generally put it on the French bread (or could use basic) dough mode and I then take it out and let it prove and bake in a bread tin as I find it easier to cut into sensible sandwiches but you could bake on French Bread Mode or Basic white. 400g Strong White 50g Wholemeal but I use Spelt Flour 1 teaspoon salt (keep away from yeast) 1 teaspoon sugar 1 teaspoon of yeast Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Mrs Webmuppet Posted December 31, 2011 Share Posted December 31, 2011 My white bread recipe for my machine is: 2 tbsp oil 1 whole cup and one eighth cup water 1 tsp salt 2 tbsp sugar 3 cups strong white flour ( I use Doves Farm or Hovis) 1 and three quarters tsp yeast on the basic bread cycle. The other thing I do is to put it on dough cycle, then leave the dough in a tin overnight in the conservatory ( nice and cool this time of year) and cook it in the morning. Space Chick Posted January 2, 2012 Share Posted January 2, 2012 Mine is 200g (grams not mls!) of milk, 100g of warm water. 450g of good organic white bread flour 3 teaspoons of sugar 2 teaspoons of salt 1 sachet of dried yeast. Put on dough setting. Then prepare a bread tin with sunflower oil to coat. Once dough is done, flour and pace in the tin. Then proof for 30 minutes by placing the bread tin over a pan of boiling water with a baking tray on top, then the bread tin on top, then cover the bread tin with a tea towel. Preheat oven to Gas Mark 6, 200C, 400f and once proofed and risen bake for 30 minutes OH has just made a loaf to this recipe tonight although he's added some mixed seeds into the mix Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Bought my Allison premium bread flour & yeast, breadmachine is on and Mrs Webbmuppets recipe is on. Will see how this goes. Will report back tomorrow on the taste testers verdict!! There is nothing more critical than my fussy 4 year old...my 2 year old will scoff anything!! It rose beautifully but when I put the machine on it deflated like a ballon o I made it again and the result is the one on the right. Verdict: They're both scrummy even if the smaller is more dense. I like the Mrs Webmuppets recipe & hubby likes spacechicks recipe plus my fussy 4 year old is siding with hubby My 2 year old is just not eating bread I am just trying the 'over night' proofing and so far it is looking like something out of 'The Blob' Have just been on EBay and ordered a bigger bread tin!!
