Laying question...

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I'd like to "pick" your brains if I possibly can?

On December 30th my hens were attacked by my neighbours terrier, I've mentioned it in other posts..I lost one hen, another is badly bitten & the 3rd escaped unscathed luckily. Obviously they have had a major scare and are no longer laying, I appreciate that it will take time for them to come back into lay again, but has any-one ever had a hen survive an attack and then never lay again? I only ask as a colleague reckons that I'll be lucky if the one who was bitten ever lays again! Eva and Sunny are both young, I bought them as 19-20wk old POL last October so my gut feeling is that they have youth on their side and things should return to normal in a few days, weeks time? Prior to the attack they were both laying very well indeed, between 5& 6 eggs a week over Xmas!!

Your thoughts, advice & pearls of wisdom much appreciated........

Hi, sorry to hear about your girls.

Not the same I know or as serious but I had one girl attacked by a cat, she really gave a good fight and there were feathers everywhere, luckily she wasn't injured. She actually laid an egg the next day, had a break and then started again. Henrietta broke her wing last year in a fall, stopped laying for a couple of weeks then back to normal.
