PC problem

Recommended Posts

A couple of years ago we bought a lap top for DD and a PC for DS. The laptop was great. The PC was not. It ran very slowly from the start and often blue screend (whatever that might be??!! :? ).

DS took it back to PC world on 3 occasions, only to be told that there was nothing wrong with it.

I went with him on the last occasion and the man told us that it was a software problem and therefore nothing to do with them and we could pay £50 to have it fixed. (We had already paid £50 to be told that there was nothing wrong with it! )

After a while he then told us that there was a problem with the graphics card - still not their problem!! I told the man that I didn't really understand the technical bits and he looked at me ALMOST rolled his eyes, looked at DS and said "I'll explain it to him". How rude!!! :x

Eventually they put me through to customer service who told me that they would arrange for a courier to pick it up (for the cost of £60) and they would have a look to see if there is a manufacturer's fault. If there isn't, they will charge me to fix it.

I am rather cross as the computer has had problems from the start and now the guarantee has run out and we still have a broken PC that DS needs for uni.

Any computer or consumer experts out there who might be able to suggest a course of action?

Could you find a local independent PC repair man or shop to have a look at it for you? One near me only charges if he can fix it. I've had computers wiped and the operating system reinstalled a few times in various machines over the years and they work like new afterwards.

They might give you a free consultation in any case and let you know how much they would charge.

PC World doesn't seem to be much cop, judging by comments I've read on the forum  . I'd be loathe to give them any more money, if I were you.

I've never had faith in PC World and if I had PC problems they would be the very last people I'd trust.

I use an independent small business and they are absolutely brilliant. Charges are much cheaper than you're quoting PCW. Forget £60 courier fees and see if there is a small business local to you that can take a look at it.

Let us know how you get on.
