craftyhunnypie
Hiya - as you all know, I hatched 3 showgirl chicks a few weeks back. It's now becoming a bit obvious that I might have a trio! Yay - this is just what I wanted! However, just to confirm their sexes - does anyone else have showgirls that I could cross reference chickie photos with? They are almost 6 weeks old. I'm certain the black one is a girl & also one of the white ones a girl. They have almost none existent combs - just a few little bumps. However, the other white one has a different comb. It is like a squashed pinky raisin. It is also quite bossy & protective of the brooder cage. - so I think it's pretty definite a boy. They all have brilliant silky feathers & fabulous punk hairdo's. laurmurf
I got a showgirl at POL and we were all absolutely sure she was a girl...until she crowed. 'we've had to give her up, sadly. They can be hard to sex, but I do hope you've got a trio!
craftyhunnypie
I'll try & take some photos later - if I can get them to stay still! Emma.x
Redwing
I'd have thought that the single comb influence of the TNN would make them easier to sex but having seen the one that Laurmurf posted about above I would have said 100% that it was a pullet when she got it and it was a fair age by then too! I can tell my normal silkies at a much younger age than that I think the thing that tricked me was the narrow space where the comb is, on a normal male Silkie the gap is wider to accomodate the walnut comb, on this particular showgirl the comb that came from nowhere was a thin walnut comb with single comb points so obviously the gap was narrow
craftyhunnypie
Have contacted the breeder & she also said she thought I had a trio. She also mentioned that from a black girl & white boy - I could breed blue & splash. Emma.x
