Smart Feeder - Light sensor values

Hello

I hope someone can help. Our hens have started pecking and eating eggs as they are laid. Will the beak bumper prevent this? Does anyone have any other ideas? I'll be trying golf balls and ceramic eggs..maybe pebbles? Hope you can help!

It's a pain when they do this and it can be difficult to break the habit . Try the ceramic eggs, they worked with mine eventually. Obviously removing any eggs as soon as possible is the best method but not always practical. You can get roll away nestboxes that can help too (not that easy to fit in an eglu though, although I did manage it). You can also try smearing English mustard into a broken egg shell (although I seem to remember some saying that doesn't work as hens don't have the same tastebuds as we do!).

Have you got a good supply of grit available for them? You can also try adding some calcium to their water. Porcelain eggs are worth a try and egg collecting more than once a day is good if its possible

Have not had this so far with my own girls, but you might like to try china or pot eggs in their nesting box, they'll soon become bored of pecking at the "eggs" with no resulting "meal" FWIW???
