where to stay for MEN Arena?

Recommended Posts

OH has decided to treat the boys and to take them to see the wrestling in Manchester (nooooooo!). Have no idea where to stay, thinking of staying for two nights, there are 5 of us so hotel will probably be difficult. All suggestions gratefully received, as even though it's his wonderful idea, I will have to organize it all - apparently I'm better at that. Thanks.

Hmm, there's nowhere in the centre of Manchester that's really cheap (well, none you'd want to take a family to!) but a quick search of http://www.travelrepublic.co.uk comes up with:

Holiday Inn Express, Oxford Road = £38/person - about 10 min walk to MEN arena

Novotel Manchester Centre (chinatown) = £38/person - about 12 min walk to MEN arena.

I've assumed (big assumption) - next weekend, arrive on Friday, check out on Sunday, 2 rooms - 1 with 1 adult 3 kids, the other with an adult and 2 kids.

Both are recently built hotels: the Novotel is about 6 or so years old, and the Holiday Inn is about 2 years old. They're both within a couple of hundred yards of each other. If you're not confident for getting to the MEN Arena, a black cab from there would seat 5 and cost about 5 or so quid. For food, you're right on Chinatown for either, so there are plenty of Chinese restaurants. If you want any other recommendations for other types of food, let me know and I'll be happy to advise! (think of a style of food and the chances are that it'll be nearby)

Thanks very much for you reply. We are not going until April. OH is now horrified at the cost and is busy reconsidering - but I have already bought the tickets - sh! don't tell him! Because we're a group of 5 we usually have to have two rooms which basically doubles the cost. It may now only be a day visit, so recommendations for places to eat nearby would be great, Italian? Thanks.
