abwsco
Can anyone recommend one please that's reasonably priced ie £150ish max. Also, would you say a foam mattress would be OK at first and then go onto a better mattress as they get older.Thanks.
Chicken shack
Buy a cot and a bed when the child is ready. Cot beds are not made that well and a baby jumping around in it usually loosens the joints etc. I don't think they are worth the money. Chucky Mama
If you intend having more than 2 children I would say a cot and a bed, otherwise the second child needs the cot before the first has finished using it as a cotbed. I would get a secondhand cot and spend the money on getting a good quality mattress.

Looney
I agree about cot, second-hand if you can find a good one and a new mattress. The mattress will cost a surprising amount on it's own! Our second hand cot (mamas and papas) cost about £30. The mattress cost about £65 from memory. The cot is extra large mind you, which we hadn't realised til we measured it for a mattress
abwsco
Thanks everyone Also should have said the cot is not for me but DD who is due at the end of this month. I'd be at the thought of needing one myself
Looney
As well as eBay there are now groups on Facebook that sell second hand equipment - a bit like free ads. It might be worth checking out any groups local to you or your DD. Bet you're excited about the new arrival, do you know if it's a boy or a girl? Willow
I'd be at the thought of needing one myself That did make me laugh We did a cot then took the side off when our eldest was old enough to try and climb out as a transition from cot to bed. The first morning I got the shock of my life when I went into his room in the morning and couldn't see him anywhere. He hadn't come into us and was nowhere to be seen. I eventually found him under the cot fast asleep He'd rolled out of cot onto the floor during the night then must have rolled under the cot. Funny now but I still remember my panic even though he's a strapping teen

abwsco
Aaw, a girl, how lovely Doesn't seem two minutes since my DD arrived....somehow she's already 14 months old! Looney, it doesn't seem two minutes since I was having my DD's and they're 21 and nearly 20 Well, we've looked at ebay, gumtree, preloved, facebook and a local secondhand nursery shop but ended up getting a new cotbed ordered from John Lewis plus sprung mattress from Kiddicare. The cotbed is only £99 and gets good reviews.
