Silly Question about Flubenvet and feed

Recommended Posts

This may seem like a silly question but I plan to use Flubenvet to worm my hens in the next few days. I plan to use a layers mash but can I make up the 2 kg of feed needed for the mix with other things I put in their feed usually like poultry spice and garlic powder? I have had a few soft shelled eggs over the last few days so was also thinking of adding a bit of limestone flour and cod liver oil in with the mix once the Flubenvet was mixed with the feed. Would this be OK or should I wait for 7 days? Finally although they are not allowed any other feed I presume that they can still have access to grit/oyster shell?

I'd leave all but the cod liver oil out then if you still are getting softies after about 4 days put a bit of limestone flour in but if they have access to oyster shell they shouldn't need it as they can have to much calcium. personally I use life guard tonic if any of my mob start laying softies for a few days

the grit/shell is ok as it's not classed as a foodstuff

I agree, you may also find that worming them sorts out the soft shell problem as a worm load could leach nutrients from their system.

My newest araucana can sometimes produce soft shelled eggs so I add crushed eggshells and cod liver oil to their feed - this sorts it and I didn't have any problems last week when I wormed them and left it out.
