Huge cry for help please!

Recommended Posts

I have just received an email froma very nice man in Germany whom I have been corresponding with. He is chairman of the Thuringian Club in Germany and I have been enquiring about getting some eggs, about 20 in quantity as that is how many I understand can come over without too many problems.

The email says he has posted the eggs ,bit of a problem as I will be away when they are due to arrive but something I can sort out, and he has sent me 60  Yes, six zero :shock::shock:

Now I have three incubators, one holds three eggs, one holds seven and has five in at the moment and one holds twenty

Assuming that these eggs are not stopped on route, is there anyone within travelling distance of Mid Sussex who can lend me an incubator/s or has space for some eggs? These eggs are rare and are a mixture of Chamois and also of Black which I don't think are in the UK. A good percentage will more than likely be duds due to the distance travelled so they should get down to a number that I can cope with after candling which I tend to do 4/5 days in.

Thanking you in advance.

Wendy, still in a slight stage of shock

When do you need it/them? I have a spare, very old, but still fully functioning auto Octagon20 you can borrow - I run it dry and it works for me, last used last year to hatch a batch of sussex. I am going to Steyning tomorrow and onto West Wittering if that is any good to you, and I will probably be going to Wittering again next week but I don't know when. I go via Brighton/Steyning/Storrington/Amberley/A27 at Fontwell/skirt Chichester and down to the coast. PM if you think I can help :D

Or, its just occurred to me, you could try asking the Ashdown Forest Poultry Club if you are a member - we are supposed to put down if we have spare incy space, they might know of someone, possibly someone with a larger incy who could take the lot

I must admit that I will be amazed in the eggs actually reach me without being stopped. There was paperwork to be completed at the German end as I am reimbursing the gentleman for postage and expenses, I believe it is an up to date health cert from a vet but a certain amount of our e-mails get "lost in translation" He has his position and reputation to protect.

Thanks to all the offers of help, I have now got myself sorted

Chook n Boo Mum

I'm just outside Haywards Heath, perhaps we could meet for a coffee sometime? :D

The eggs arrived beautifully packed and each one marked with date of lay, breeding pen number and a cross and line on opposite sides. Only one had been cracked in the journey from Germany. I bit the bullet and bought another inci, an Octagon 40DX, so they are split between that and a R-Com 20. I will wait to candle until Friday night, they went in Sunday, to see whether my next panic will be the brooder situation.

Hello Ladies!

I was in WW yesterday, I'll be there again next Weds and the 24th - but I have a mound of stuff to do on each day I'm afraid, I'm clearing a house. However, I am then going to Chichester on 27th and will be much freer, although I am waiting on arrangements from someone else, so I don't know my exact movements yet.

I am also working in Henfield, Midhurst, Pulborough, and Steyning over the next 6 weeks or so, if that's any use :D
