beccauk
My expectations may of been alittle high as this morning i havent a egg, but still may get one today. Just wondering when people have found eggs is it mainly mornings? mid morning? or just anytime? Becca
SMS6
As with all aspects of their lives hens all differ when it comes to egg laying. We have one that lays every day before we even get up and that hasn't changed with the hour altering. Her egg is always there when we let them out and she rarely misses a day. Another lays almost daily but sometimes early morning and sometimes about midday but she has a day or two off every 3 or 4 days . One lays every other day early afternoon and the last of the four used to lay daily about 11.00 ish but hasn't started back in to lay yet after a broody spell and she only came in to lay for the first time back in January so we're not used to her routine yet. beccauk
I guess it would help if i knew which one it was laying the eggs, we did get another egg today again OH found it when coming home for lunch. I will have to keep a record of when we get them and roughtly what part of the day and see if there is a pattern to whos laying. The 2nd egg we got today was slightly bigger then yesterdays! its my birthday tomorrow so maybe il be lucky in the morning lol Becca
SMS6
are your girls all the same breed? You need a few hours to just sit and watch who goes in the nest box - I used to spend ages waiting for one to go in and then run down as soon as tehy came out and see if there's egg. I'm lucky that all mine lay a different colour/size egg so it's easy to tell now we've worked it out.
beccauk
Mine are all the same i have 3 amber links, i had my third egg today and i am assuming its another mid morning lay as there wasnt anything again this morning. 1 amber link still has a pale comb and anothers hasnt fully grown so i think i know who it is until they all start. I am going to get 2 more tho either cream legbars or columbines a blue egg layer as be nice to have variety. While im on that subject i want hens that are of simular size to amber links , light sussex for example are a larger bird, does anyone know either columbines and cream legbars are of simular size.
