Does anyone have 'Fenton Blues'? We're thinking of getting a couple, to go with the Blackrocks, Bluebells and our ISA brown (Fern). We just need to know their temperament, and are they OK free-ranging with other hens?

I had 4 Fenton Blues a few years ago. I wouldn't have them again. Whilst they did lay beautiful greeny blue eggs, they weren't at all robust and were very skittish.

 

One was relentlessly broody, and did make a very good surrogate mother.

I have a Fenton Rose which are very similar. She doesn't lay the promised blue eggs She is a little smaller than by Bluebelle but not a small hen. She was a little skittish but has recently become much more laid back (1 year on approx). She gets on perfectly well with my other birds (see signature for breeds).

Thanks for the replies, I think we'll give the Fentons a miss. Must say that Bluebells are great birds, and to a slightly lesser degree Blackrocks.
