Eggasperated
Following on from the new girls illness I noticed one of my older girls, Alice, standing around looking miserable. I booked a vets appointment for tomorrow morning as I thought she must have caught the new girls infection (even tho' they are in separate runs); however now I've brought her in I've found she has a very squishy crop which I assume is sour crop. I intend to take her to the vet tomorrow and I've also read all the info about draining the crop but I'm not confident to do it myself until the vet shows me how. My question is - will Alice be alright until then? I would hate her to die because I've done nothing. She's currently in a cat basket in the spare room and as far as I'm aware has not eaten or drunk anything all day.
staceychristie
If your not happy--don't do it! They can choke on their own Vom if you don't allow them time to breathe. Just keep her warm (not hot) and in a comfortable place. Sour crop is not uncommon, but personally I check all the girls morning and night -- morning to see if the crops are empty, and in the evening to see if they've had enough food during the day. Sometimes the crop sticks out, but unless you physically feel it, then as you've found it could just be fluid. The vet will probably provide you with some medication to clear up any infection too. Well done you for spotting it. Stacey
