clucker1
My sweet peas are at the stage, they need to go out in the garden and climb. However, if I plant them out in this wet and cold weather I am worried they will do nothing. Any help much appreciated. Thank you.
Couperwife
What about putting them in a large tub with a wigwam frame and letting them climb up that? That way you can keep them in when it's cold and stick them out when it's sunny I love sweet peas. I love the fact that you have to keep cutting them so that you get more flowers! I think I'm going to plant some Cathy X
clucker1
Thanks Cathy, I really do want them to go out in my border that I am trying to get more colour into this year (it is very green at the moment.) Can't decide whether to go for it or do a transition into big cardboard pots (which I can then move into place). I have no experience of sweet peas in this cold type of weather and if they will be alright.
Olly
Not sure exactly where you are, but there is frost forecast for some parts of the UK tonight - I would keep them in until that danger has passed, at least. Cold/rainy weather shouldn't stunt them too much though.
clucker1
Olly, thanks for that. We are in the sunny south-east ha ha ha, deepest Surrey!!!!! I don't think we have frost forecast for tonight.
chickencam
I planted mine out three weeks ago and they are going great guns with all this rain. Ideally harden them off for a few days before planting them out if they have been indoors but I planted some of mine out straight from the greenhouse and they have been fine. clucker1
Going to plant them out tomorrow, thank you everyone. If I don't let the chickens near them whilst they get started to grow up their canes, will the chickens eat them when the peas are taller?
