Bruges query

Recommended Posts

Hi. We are hoping to go with friends to Bruges later in the year and have found a lovely B&B with limited availability for 3 nights during the week we can all go. They have only Sunday to Wednesday available. Does anyone know what Bruges is like on a Sunday? I don't want to go on a short break and find there is not much to do or see on one of those days. Many thanks.

Hi there,

What time of year are you planning to go?

Bruges is a major tourist destination, both for Belgians and foreigners, and as such tends to be 'on' all the time I believe. I spent a weekend there back in my youth, and don't remember it going particularly quiet on the Sunday. Many Belgians go there for a weekend or even for a day, so my guess is that, although my experience dates back 20 years or so, they would keep most things open on Sundays, as the weekends are the most likely times for nationals to visit.

Good luck!

We went to Bruges last October for a few days mid week and it was busy busy busy all the time. They even had a couple of Christmas shops open!

I am sure all the attractions will be open on Sunday and the bars and chocolate shops will definitely be open! You can always look up opening times of the attractions you want to see.(Just looked up opening times of the Bell Tower and it is open every day.)

We managed to fit in :-

A walk to the top of the bell tower

Trip to a chocolate museum (for me :) )

Visit to a beer museum (for OH :D )

A canal boat trip

Lots of walking

Lots of coffee and hot chocolate

Visiting a variety of churches

Several meals out (the square was very expensive and the menus quite similar so we discovered some lovely little restaurants down the side streets).

The pony and trap rides looked inviting, but again, rather expensive so we gave that a miss.

October is a lovely time to visit and I am sure you will find plenty to do. Enjoy!
