BuryFCA1
Title says it all. I have often wondered. Is it? Smell of hens or the pen Sound of the hens Does it need to see the hens General animal instinct Does it smell the hens food or eggs Confused
sjp
I'd say items 1 and 2 at least
Olly
I would think sound and smell first - it wouldn't need to see them, to know that there was some sort of livestock gathered together in one place. Their sense of hearing and smell is much more sensitive than ours, and they probably pick up on the scent of droppings and the hens themselves - smells that we wouldn't even notice. Lavenders_Blue
With the recent bad weather my garden currently smells like a farmyard If I can smell it, it must be bad as I have a dreadful sense of smell. I reckon every fox within a 100 mile radius of here will be on high alert! So yes, I reckon smell and sound. Their senses are much keener than ours.
