dance in the dark
Basically I am wondering what chick crumbs to get, I fell I should make sure I have some in place pretty soon so the mother can learn where she can get food for her babies, but I am just not sure which to get. I understand what Coccidiostat is, but I have heard some people say it's not necessary and it can affect growth rates and things. Is there any logic to choosing with or without coccidiostat based on whether you are hatching with a broody hen, or an artificial brooder? Is it always safer to use coccidiostat? It just seems confusing as I have read conflicting reports.....
sjp
I use the medicated because I lost 2 of my very first hatchlings at 13-14 days old to Cocci
Redwing
I personally always use a chick crumb with the medication in as I dont like to take the risk (having previously had chicks die from Coccidiosis) I dont think it has any adverse affects on the chicks When choosing brands choose one that has a nice small crumb as the chicks will eat better that way, Marriages is a great one if you can get it If you choose not to feed medicated crumb then do order a bottle of Coxoid and have it on standby, its cheap enough and if the chocks do get Cocci then you wont have time to order a bottle before they start dying
dance in the dark
I think I will get it with the cocci in then, as it seems like the better option, I just wanted to be sure, and you, Redwing, are always a superb mine of information. I will get marriages as I can get it from Omlet, and I need to do an order anyway because I want a run extension for my cube.
