Could a shock make Big Flo Broodie?

Recommended Posts

I'm aware you all get lots of Broodie questions but....

I was clearing out the shed making it tidy for all my chickeny bits and the girls were hanging around hoping for mealworms

When Big Flo ( shes a light Sussex and much larger than the other two)

Caught site of her self in an old Ikea mirrored bathroom cupboard

Well she screached! feathers fluffed tail up hunched to the ground

I was surprised and realised she thought her reflection was an imposter and dangerous

The others were a bit wary but no fright/flight!

This moring she hasn't come out of coop...

Usually she comes out first thing with the others then goes back in around 9am to lay

She's sat tight spread out on any eggs that may be there for the last 3 hours!

Uh-Oh is it possible she's broody only 2 months after arriving

Could it have been the shock yesterday that sent her Broodie?

And should I move her?

Shezamageeza Big Flo :!:

After reading the "Broodie" sticky I took swift action :!:

Opened the nest box and gently lifted Big Flo out and yep there were three toasty warm eggs

She went and joined the others eating n drinking

I recognised the docile, chest-feather-plucking, sat like a football and deep clucking in the coop Imediatetly

Tick by all those things HaHa!

Luckily it's a windy rainy day today so she can cool off with the others! :shameonu:

Yes catch it early, the earlier you try to stop her going broody the less extreme your measures might have to go to to snap her out of it. You could always try locking the out of the coop for a couple of hours. If the others have laid their eggs they most likely won't need to go back in there. You can also try dropping her for a small height, or even holding her so she flaps her wings, the beating can cool them down, and a combinations of these two things stopped on of my birds who was going full out broody..

She's out FR with the others in the garden PHEW

The girls never go in the coop in the day or even the little run that underneath! So I've closed the door and left her to it

Fingers crossed though I've a feeling I may be doing the same tomorrow morning haha

Jackian she was SO interesting doing her fright/flight thing! Should Have sent some pics to David Attenbourough (Big Fan) Big Flo looked like a bird of paradise dancing

But I'll have to move the cabinet as its distressing her

It's great this site is here I could check and knew immediately what to do!
