Moving egg - Day 17, advice needed please

Recommended Posts

Is this normal?

I have 9 eggs in a Brinsea Mini Eco Incubator (I think only 8 developing though). The incubator is in the kitchen. I was just making myself a sandwich and thought I saw an egg move. Obviously I thought I was seeing things so I watched carefully. And an egg definitely moved from top to bottom, rocking.

Is this just movement? Surely, the egg is not thinking about hatching yet?! The eggs were set on Day 0 at 10.20pm so techinically it's early Day 17 at the moment (Monday morning). The plan was to 'lock down' and increase the humidity tomorrow afternoon.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Edit: I should have said that these eggs are pekins and miniature silkies. The egg I saw moving earlier was a miniature silkie egg. I have read that the incubation period for bantams can be shorter but I've also been advised to just treat them as 21 day incubation. Shall I stop turning and increase the humidity now? I just don't know if eggs generally move a little during incubation but I've not noticed this before.

Tumble is a little bantam silkie and hatched on day 17, we had heard it cheeping on day 16 :D:D

Thanks Chrissie. What else did you have in your incubator and when did they hatch? 3 silkies are moving in there and it's not just a one off!

18 other eggs all bantams but Tumble was the only silkie that hatched.

The others didn't hatch until day 21. The others were welsummers, wyandottes, pekins, araucana, araucana cross speckled sussex, ancona and a frizzle. So a lovely mixture. All but three eggs hatched giving us 16 chicks.

Good luck with your hatch.
