Chortle Chook
Just wondering what duck breeds people have had most success with / have enjoyed most. I saw a pair of Appleyards at the weekend and they looked just so pretty.
whitewestie
Last week I had a pair of Pekin ducks for my birthday. They are approx 6 weeks old and really cute. I have them living in my spare eglu in a fenced off area at the bottom of the garden. They are settling in well but are a little shy so I am taking it very slowly letting them get used to their surroundings and us being around. When they are settled I will start to make friends with them by offering them treats as I did with the chickens. Geraldine and Jemima Puddleduck are very entertaining especially since they discovered the paddling pool. It's great to watch them ducking and diving. Needless to say, lots of time being spent sitting in the garden watching their antics. We've never had ducks before so we are learning as we go. Chortle Chook
What gorgeous names you have given them. I must say, Pekin ducks do look sooo cute with their upright stance but tubbier than runners. I saw some recently in a show and have not been able to eat Pekin duck at the local Chinese since. Redwing
I think Call ducks make great pets but my favourite ducks have to be runner ducks, they are so funny and come in some pretty colours, I love the fawn & white ones and also the trout colour

Pikey
Muscovy ducks are my favourite...my gran used to keep them...due to lack of space I've gone for my second choice which are call ducks.....they are so comical and such time wasters (two are what Tom and me got from your last year Taz)
Chortle Chook
Call ducks really are time wasters aren't they, even more so that chickens. I was late for work today because I was standing watching the call ducks on their bath What colours do you have? I think my pair are 'pied' but I am not certain. Is it true that Muscovy ducks climb? Mayo
I'm with Pikey 100% Muscovies are By Far the most entertaining, affectionate and, of course, more intelligent than any other chicken or duck, all horses and most dogs . . . Biased, Moi . . . Mayo.
