munkee1965
Are these one of the same? I have seen what looks like little red spiders on my windowsill and plants at the front of the house. Are these what I should be looking for on my girls?
chick wiggle
No i dont think they are the same. The dreaded Red Mite hide during the day and are a brownish colour until they come out at night to feed on our girls. Anyone more knowledgable please feel free to correct me if im wrong. Redwing
they arenot the same Red spider mites are always red and very visible Red mite are black/grey when not fed and are quite hard to see, their deposits are easier to spot being like grey cigarette ask in the coop. When fed they are red shiny dots and still quite small but more visible

Ive never seen any mites though, but will be on the lookout now!
angeluk69
When I have gone to my girls at about 7ish in the morning, I have been able to see if the red mites have visited, eh burrow in the wood, and are bright red by the morning, they are engorged with blood. Check the ends of perches and in cracks/crevices. Red spider mite are NOT the same as the spider mites are red 24/7 and actually harmless to chickens, yet the red mites are grey during the day and red at night early morning after their 'feed'
