Geoid
Make sure you collect the eggs regularly and that you clean up any bits of broken egg. Make sure your chickens have access to grit, clean water and food. You can put golf balls in the nest or fill up an egg shell with hot english mustard, they wont eat the eggs after that! But, chickens should not live on their own, they need company. So get 1 or 2 more chickens.
cordelia
Ages since I posted anything, so I've taken ages now to find the correct page I now have four chickens, Agatha, rhode island, Ethel a pied Suffolk, and Tinkerbell and Florence who are coral Nicks I think Anyway, nice clean eglu, vermex in water, oyster shell, small holder layers pellets. Diatom in nest , but darned chickens are eating the eggs, for the last two weeks. Two white eggs eaten today again, just saved a newly laid brown egg under Ethel though I like the idea from Fred about the mustard so may try that. I don't have a problem with soft shells, so it isn't that. Darned weather isnt helping, I let them free range, or keep them in the run, it makes no difference, but is driving me mad. shemybelle
Hi Are you sure it's the chickens that are eating the eggs? Could be rats or wild birds. Also, are you using the Vermex as a wormer or just as a tonic? It's not really effective as a wormer. Lx
