munkee1965
My compost bin has been going since April. I've noticed today that there is 100's of tiney black flies in there. What are they and are they OK?
The Dogmother
Sound like fruit flies; bung a load of Diatom in there, that'll sort them out.

chickencam
I don't really worry about what lives in my compost bins, just consider it part of the natural ecosystem. We did move one bin that used to be close to the back door, because the fruit flies were annoying and got into the kitchen, but now they are further down the garden it is fine. jessy27
munkee, Fruit fly's won't harm your compost, you do want to keep them out of the house though. They can be annoying.
