anti-pecking

Recommended Posts

Hi

If anyone read one of my topics about a month ago i got 2 columbines which i was intergrating with my 3 amberlinks, we have seperated them in the run and they have their own coop as advised and we have started putting them together each night this week from once every few days and free ranging once a week, most of the time they seem to be tollerating them its funny one minute they cold be stood next to them and not bothered the next minute they are having a woddle over and a peck nothing too nasty, didnt know if anyone has tried and tested thiese anti pecking sprays you can get i was looking at them at the weekend and thought i would just give them abit longer its when we walk away and leave them im more concerned about if they get pecked at and wanted to try leaving them for a longer duration as this week its just been for a hour or so at night when finishing work.

any advice appreciated as always

We had to introduce 2 exbats to our one original and it took 8 weeks before things settled down. There were some very nasty attacks at first especially on the smallest and bottom hen. We did try various sprays but they only seemed to work for a few hours. We did buy some scarper spray but things improved before it arrive from the seller, this is supposed to be one of the best. Our solution was to have them together until a nasty attack then divide the run with some trellis from B&Q for a few hours so the smallest could eat and drink in comfort. They are all best mates now but it was stressfull.

I think it sounds like you are doing just fine becca.

We had the anti peck spray, but don't think it ever did much good.

Time and patience and a water pistol, my Marigold who was brought home in January, has only this month started to become a proper part of the flock. Yet she was brought in with another girl who was accepted within about 4 weeks. Marigold was much younger though.

Whilst she was always the outsider she would always come to me for a cuddle, she doesn't want me anymore - which is a good thing, honest :(

You have the set up to keep them safe and separate when you are not there to keep an eye on them, I would keep doing what you are doing.

thanks for your advice, each time they seem to be better until you say you think theres improvement them one will have a peck lol, is pulling odd feathers ok to let them do im not sure what i should alllow for them to get themselves in order, tonight the 2 columbines were sat up on the perch, and one of the amberlinks reached up and had a couple of pecks and got a feather then ate it, it tried again a couple of times and the columbines got down out the way, is this exceptable behaviour to allow while they are getting introduced?
