Disappearing chicken!

Recommended Posts

:shock::shock: My new baby, Hermione, has just taken about 5 years off my life. I only got her on Sunday so she is in a separate run-within-the-WIR. The idea was to do that for a week and then try some introductions via FR. So I just went out to check that she had managed to put herself to bed ok...and no Hermione  Checked everywhere in the run 3 or 4 times, then went in for a torch, went out and checked again, panic panic panic!

Then I noticed that the girls were getting ready to go to bed and on the off-chance, checked the Eglu. There she was  Lord knows how she managed to get out of the run, but she obviously wanted to sleep with the big girls. So I watched closely as they went in, and there didn't seem to be any problems - she was in the nestbox and them in their usual spots. Then she got up and squiggled her way in between them, still no problems.

So HELP! What do I do now? Should I take her out?! Or leave her in there?!

Yep, my heart was pounding, I thought somehow a fox must have got in or something  Practically impossible, given that they're all in an Omlet WIR, plus we have 10 foot fencing with cat fencing on top all around the garden...but my brains weren't working

I just went out and checked again, and both big girls are asleep, with her (awake) snuggled up to the back of them. I think I'm going to leave her there, and leave our bedroom window open so I can hear any commotion.... I don't have the heart to take her out...but she's so TINY compared to them.

I'm guessing I should separate them again in the morning...? They're all sleepy and nice now but they might turn on her in the morning ...

Oh dear  They're a worry!

Well, I was up at 5am rescuing Hermione because everyone had woken up and she was getting duffed up  She's been separated for most of the day but I went in with a cuppa after work, let her out and supervised. Quite a lot of charging and lunging....and no actual contact! My girls are so lazy that they can't even do proper Chicken Aggro  Not that I want them to, of course.

I put her back into her but and then everyone had a nice afternoon nap :D

Of course at night time she was all over the shop again so I've let her go into the eglu with the girls again tonight...and no doubt will be up at 5 again tomorrow :D

oh dear! Lovely pics :D

Did you have an early start again then ?

Yes, quarter to 5  But it was just that they wouldn't let her out of the eglu, so I popped her into her bit again and just went back to bed :D I had to leave them separated all day today because of work, but I'll open up her bit tonight and just let her make her way into the eglu (rather than having to climb up the fence, which I presume is how she's getting out at night-time!)

She is such a cutie, I'm smitten :D

This is such a lovely story although I can imagine how scared you were at first, they are such lovely photos. I lost Esme my bantam orp one day and like you was in a complete panic, turns out I had shut her in the garage without realising and she was happily sat on a bench. She is so nosey that she investigates everything. :)
