williamspencer98
I've had my bantams 2 weeks, but kept them in a seperate run. We bought 2 LF hens at the same time but mixed them in straight away and everything is fine. The reason why we didn't mix the banties in were because of bullying so we have them kept in another house. However it would be ideal if we could put them in the large hen house with the LF hens. What are your opinions? Each resident of each hen house get on fine with no bullying whatsoever.
quickcluck
I have all sorts in my little flock from a teeny pekin to a massive cuckoo maran. They get on fine... However, the intros must be done VERY slowly. I do mine over weeks, going from 5 mins play time upwards.... sometimes it's take a couple of months, but I am ridiculously cautious It is worth it tho, and they live happily in 2 or 3 houses and they choose to sleep wherever suits them.... Purplemaniacs
I think there are some omleteers who have mixed bantams with LF. To be successful I think you have to introduce them very slowly to prevent serious bullying and be very observant and prepared to keep them seperate if things don't work out. I have hybrids, ex batts and bantam chicks all seperate at the moment, I plan to merge my hybrids and ex batts but will keep the bantams in their own house and run. Good luck Chrissie
The Rivetts
I've just successfully integrated my Bantam cockerel with my 3 full-size ladies. Initially they were extremely violent with him, but as they are feather pulling anyway, we fitted bumpa bits so they couldn't draw blood. Barry the Bantam had his own little run within their run [with a cat carrier turned on it's side for his house], and we kept him in there for the first 5 days. Then we let him out, and he soon discovered that being tiny, he could easily hide away, but most of the time, he just flew up to sit on top of his little run. Yesterday I noticed one of the ladies had flown up to join him, so they all went to bed together last night, and today he has not flown up, but stayed on the ground. Got to say though, the bumpa bits were a godsend as we knew he couldn't be really badly hurt. Good luck
