Hi everyone,

I've got 9 chickens - all normal size, not bantams, and I want a plastic house. Which ones will accommodate them? It's just for sleeping, as they free range all day, and I've got a run large enough if I have to lock them away. Thanks! Heidi

Oh dear. I mentioned it to OH last night. I'm fighting red mite at the moment, hence the desire for something plastic. And he said... no. He said if we need a new chicken house, the chickens got to go because he is not spending any more money on 'chicken stuff'.

I hope I win the battle against the red mite, otherwise I will have to re-home the chickens, and I don't know anyone who will take them :( I won't let them beat me!

Creosote is possibly the best red mite preventative and treatment around if you can get hold of some. The substitute works ok too but not as good as the proper stuff

I have recently used a very very good product called Perbio, it is much stronger than the normal treatments perbio-choc

The trick with any mite is to treat every 4 days or so to get the whole lifecycle of the bugs

To answer your original question (if the purse strings loosen) I think the biggest plastic coops are probably the Solway arks
