River Cottage Sunday Lunch experience

Recommended Posts

Well we are back from our hols in Devon and I just want to say how great the trip to River Cottage was. I will post pics when I can.

Plum, the barn caught fire a while back but everywhere else at River Cottage HQ is fine. :D

The Sunday lunch was a gift for DH and myself, from ED and new son in law :D , for helping out so much with their recent wedding. (Few pics on recent 'wedding help' thread ) . All four of us really enjoyed it! A tractor and trailer took us, and many other diners, from the car park down to RC where we were greeted by lovely staff. It was very friendly and informal. We had Elderflower Bubbly and canapes in a yurt then wandered around the farm. Lunch was in a huge marquee as the barn was not able to be used :( but it was still lovely. When seated we had more canapes, then beef roast dinner with the best yorkshire puddings ever! Dessert was panacotta with blueberries and a taster of lemon meringue and berry crumble, Coffee and rocky road (for petit fours) followed. The chef spoke to us all about the provenance of the food served etc before we ate, much of which had been produced at RC.

Lots of chidren were there and they all played outside with a bale of straw. It kept them amused for the duration. It was lovely to see such fun being had with just some straw and space to explore. The kitchen garden had some lovely produce growing. We were even allowed in to the farmhouse kitchen where the chef was cooking and he took our photo by the fireside. It was really great overall and I would thoroughly recommend it. xx
