Not having a good week!

Recommended Posts

Arrgh I'm not having a very good week. Hubby away ( back tomorrow). Yesterday evening our white leghorn Shisha died, so had to deal with that. This morning, I woke up to find 3 ewes & baby barbara in the main field, instead of their little bit. :wall: I'd not realised how low the stream had got with all this hot weather, they are normally afraid of it. But looks like they'd paddled through it.

I wouldn't normally stress, but at the moment there is a large amount of fencing down, between us & a farmers property that has just been built. It's due to go back soon ( them to do it as they pulled it down), but for the moment there is just a small embankment.

Our sheep are good in the fact that they normally follow me if I rustle a carrier bag. But no, today the grass was juicy and fresh in the main field & they wouldn't come.

So they have been on an adventure since 8am this morning until 2.30pm!!!!

Suddenly the heavens opened & they legged it down the track to get to their other 2 ( good girls) friends who didn't escape. I went in their bit with my carrier bag, left the gate wide open & in the naughty sheep marched - as if nothing had happened!!! Naughty Naughty! :shameonu:

Electric fencing called for! Think baby Barbara is worn out now as she is zonked!

Always stuff like this happens when I'm on my own!

Oh well, I have my swappee postcard to look forward to & a nice strong cup of tea!

I know just how you feel Emma - Carl has to work 3 days a week in Birmingham instead of working from home and little things keep happening. Yesterday I let the dogs out to go for a walk with them and found the relief postman had left the gate open and the dogs were heading towards the main road  I had to run (hobble) excitedly away from them so that I could shut them in the 'back garden' Today we have one colony of bees behaving oddly .....they'll have to just get on with it but I am keeping an eye on them. We have an old ewe who is almost blind and she keeps being left behind by the others, normally Carl would frogmarch her through the gate but she's just been shorn and so not enough fleece to grab hold of..........I took Jazz in with me and she moved her along to join the others! - who needs a sheepdog!!

There's always something waiting to go wrong on a farm.........and it will always wait until you're on your own

It's true Lesley! I got the ewes in & they got out again. I got them in again & out they got again. So given up & let them roam - will get them in at chook shutting in time then that will be it if they get out again.

I've also had our vicious cockerel get in the garden bit round our house. He jumped up on the fence to get away from the sheep - so I got attacked by him whilst trying to shoo him out.

What next eh?

Everything goes hunky dory when hubby is here - he has none of this to deal with. Us women - we deserve farming awards!

I hope our piggies are easier work when they come in 2 weeks.
