Hi all,

Does anyone have a rooster?? I bought 4 chickens as chicks, and now have 3 hens and a rooster.

I live in North London, in a fairly suburban area, and my rooster has just started crowing every morning at 7am! We can even hear him from inside the eglu (I let them out at 7.30am)

I haven't yet received any complaints, but I'm just not sure having a rooster will bode well for my neighbours in the future! If I have to give him away, I wouldn't know where to begin as my local RSPCA is pretty full with chickens...

Any one else got a rooster?

Thanks PP

What breed is he but i think you may get a bit of trouble from your neighbours for his crowing you may be lucky but i would be ready to try and rehome him the cockbirds i hatch if i can rehome them i will if not they are culled "Ooops, word censored!"ody wants cockbirds im afraid you could ask at some farms or take him back to where you got him from even if they dont want him back they may provide a culling service sorry to be on the negative side leanne.

Hi,

Did you get your chicks from a breeder and were they sold as sexed? If so, and you thought you were buying 4 females, I would contact the breeder and tell them you wish to return/exchange the cockerel.

I have 3 bantam roosters and, like you, I keep them in the Eglu until about 7.30am. I can still hear them crowing even in the Eglu, but my neighbours say they can't hear them at all so it may not be as bad as you fear.

If you want to keep him, have a word with your neighbours and see if they object. If not, the breeder is your first port of call.

No they weren't sold as sexed. Already returned one suspected rooster to him, which was fine as it was still young and the breeder was able to reintroduce him into his flock. Now mine will be a bit too old for that based on what I've been told about chicken introductions.

I'll wait for a complaint first, then I'll see about rehoming...
