good_egg
I am beginning to think that I am either super sensitive/prone to panic or we have a lot of chicken stress and drama here. Buffy has perked her wee tail up, so that particular problem seems to have gone away. The next one is that my baby maran seems to have different sized pupils. I think she has been like this since we got her (Sunday) as I remember thinking there was something weird about her eye. Anyway, I'm trying to work out whether to have a complete Mareks panic or whether there is something else that might have caused. Her right eye looks normal, her left has a much smaller pupil - its perfectly round, just small. It's a bit of a sensitive subject in this house as my OH is part blind and his eyes are the same so he is saying she could just be blind. Nothing else seems wrong, she is eating and drinking (I know they do if they have Mareks) and no limp, no dizziness - nothing. Do I just watch and wait, is there any other tell tales and how long do I need to hold my breath for? Thanks.
The Dogmother
She could be blind or it could be a sign of a stroke. Marek's is pretty rare and if she's otherwise healthy I wouldn't panic, just keep an eye on her and see how it goes.
good_egg
Thanks Dogmother. Really appreciate you replying and restoring some sanity! As I said, we are a blind friendly household so hopefully it is just that. Will keep my fingers and toes crossed. She is only a baby (7/8 weeks) so I think more prone to the dreaded M, but my OH keeps accusing me of seeing zebras where there are only horses (or something like that) so I will keep an eye on her and try and chill. Really appreciated, thank you. WIll also try and get some pics up over the weekend, they are v cute.
The Dogmother
You're right, she is at the catchment age for Marek's but it is pretty unusual and I've only had one case in the years I've kept pure breeds. There's nowt you can do if they do exhibit symptoms and PTS is the usual recommendation. Try not to worry and see how she goes, post on here if you have any concerns and we'll try to help. Mrs_B
Hope all is OK, good egg! I am sure your little lady will be OK and if something is wrong with her eyesight, you will do a great job looking after her x
