good_egg
After so many posts on here about whether it's ok to let chickens sleep in the nesting box I've got the opposite problem! I expected my little ones to sleep in the nest box until I either turfed them out or gave in permanently. I've certainly been assuming that's their bed while they are little. But tonight they are all in the main bit of the cube! I'm wondering if it's a protest at me changing the bedding to ecobed (?) - little squares of cardboard. I thought it would be cosier but perhaps a bit jaggy!? Or perhaps they've grown so much they don't all fit - not sure I buy that as they all pile! Are they ok on poop trays with sawdust or should I try and tempt back in? Also when should I put bars back? Was thinking would start with one set but seem to remember there are problems if they are too young? Thanks H
Purplemaniacs
My chicks don't sleep in the eglu nest box, they sleep where the bars would be. Mine are 19 weeks and I am about to put the bars back in but I think you can do it a bit earlier than I have Chrissie
cyclonetog
Why do you take the bars out? Feel like I've missed a step somewhere reading that, my 3 all pile into the nesting box together despite the fact they don't really fit lol. Purplemaniacs
Young chicks can not cope with the bars so you take them out and fill the area with bedding. You also remove the bars for ex batts as they may be very week when you first get them. Chrissie
