I have just set 12 copper black marans eggs under my broody orpington....

 

It's a bit later than I'd like to be hatching really, but she is so determined, and it always takes her at least three weeks to come off broodiness anyway. She hatched some others about 14 weeks ago, but she has regained a decent bit of weight so I thought I'd let her have another go.

 

I did make the decision to bring her inside though, so I went and bought a guinie pig hutch from pets at home (special offer and all) and set that up in the back room. That way, when the chicks hatch I can give them some additional hours of daylight and control the temperature a bit more.

 

I had thought I might do half a dozen copper blacks and some appenzellers, but I couldn't get any app eggs as quickly, and the copper blacks I found are very dark, the kind of darkness where they look like chocolate (not the absolute darkes ever, but decent) so who am I to refuse?

Those eggs are amazing! Especially the almost purple ones on the right. I have a broody at the moment and I wish I could put some eggs under her but don't have the space to keep anymore Good luck hatching them
