minieggs
Hi everyone, I'm looking at getting some more hens to add to my collection. Currently I have 4 bantams; pekins, Poland and sussex, all white / light cream egg layers. I'd really like to have some colourful eggs, and was thinking of getting 3 more chickens. I'd be really grateful for any suggestions of which breeds to look at that would get on with my existing flock, and any recommended breeders around the west midlands? Thanks
Redwing
I'd stick with bantams. Araucana bantams would give you blue/green eggs and a good dark egg laying strain of Welsummers or Marans will give you dark brown eggs The National show in Nov and the Federation show in Dec are both in the Midlands and have a range of chickens for sale. Alternatively contact the breed clubs and they can put you in touch with a local breeder
Sue
Ken Nash President of The Marans Club keeps an excellent strain of prizewinning Marans and Welsummer bantams, and if he doesn't have any available he would probably be able to recommend someone. I think he lives not too far away from you. His contact details are on The Marans Club website http://www.themaransclub.co.uk Oh, and I think he keeps Araucanas as well
