Bantums What shoud I get ??

Recommended Posts

So Ive decided that I need some Bantums, soooooooooooooo not told the hubby yet :-) whoops

I was wondering what do people thnk I should get, I fancy something pretty and fluffy but to be fair im yet to see an ugly breed !

I am hoping to get three and that they will be chicks but unsure just dont know what I have a person who said they could supply me some and if I had a specfic breed in mind they would source the eggs etc

Also will they have to live seperately to my chooks or can they all live together in harmony ?

I LOVE Pekin Bantams :)

They are super friendly and fluffy and don't damage the ground too much at all :)

I just got a new Pekin Bantam hen and also a Light Sussex Bantam :)

The Light Sussex is a bit flighty at the moment but I'm hoping she'll come round :) earlier in the year I had 2 Pekin Bantams living with my 2 GNR with no problems, initially there is a little dominance competition but as the Bantams are so small they seem to understand that they are probably at the bottom of the pecking order.

Some people have real problems integrating Bantams and Large Fowl, but with a little perseverance and a decent intro programme it is possible :) I think it very much depends on the personality of the hens :)

Good Luck they are really fun :) I think that I read that you were near bath? if so Google JC Chickens as they breed a lot of Bantams :)

I've got 2 Pekins and an Orpington bantam and they're all lovely! I posted recently and asked for bantam recommendations ( I think Morehens has struck..) and had lots of answers - I've got Maran bantams, Serama bantams, Sablepoot bantams and Belgian bantams (d'Anvers, de Watermeal..) on the list to consider... Good luck choosing :)

Thanks guys, there is just soooooooooo muh choice :-) unforteantly someone bought MY winning lottery ticket so I cant buy every furry fuffly chick/bantum/chicken avalible (which honestly I wold do )

Im liking the Pekins as there seems to be a wide colour choice (oh my sound like im buying shoes) and I think a silkie would be nice too, maybe 2 Pekins and a Silkie . I cant have them until November as we still go away on the weekends so I will see what is avalible at that time.

My only worry now is I have two cats, whilst I can keep them safe when they are needing a heat lamp Im now worried about when they will go outside, I do have an old G. Pig that would possibly be if use but when they are fully grown would they still be vunerable to cats. We do have a young ginger cat that eyes up my larger girls whereas my cats arent at all bothered by the chickens, in fact Eyore (the cat in my profile pic) will happily cuddle up to me when I have one of my girls on my lap.
