They haven't been kicked out (Only the cracked hatched egg has been). Will another egg hatch if theyre still under her? Ive heard if they've been kicked out they're not going to hatch???Many thanks,W
Snowy
It's early yet, they don't all hatch on day 21, some take a bit longer. As long as she is sitting tight, leave her too it.

williamspencer98
Hi everyone, its day 23 now in the hatching period. I had 6 eggs under my broody and it is now day 23 and only 1 hatched on day 21. I've read that it can vary some are on-time, some are late. I have 2 silkie hens that are sitting on them. They've been so broody, they started sitting about 5 weeks ago, so I decided to buy some hatching eggs and put them under, and see what hatches. So as I said, I have 1 chick born on day 21. I've still got 5 eggs under the 2 silkies (they share, sometimes 1 hen has them all!). But I've been looking for signs, so putting the egg on a flat surface and look for movement. But I can't see any movement. I did notice however, that they're light grey spots on the centre of the egg shells, not on the points but around the centre. I've also heard of the water test? Should I do that? Is it suitable to do that if the eggs are under a hen? I'd really just like someone to guide me as to what the egg signs are telling me? Thank you for your help. Snowy
Hold them very close to your ear - if there are live chicks in there, you should hear some cheaping If you hear nothing, give them a very gentle shake. If you hear sloshing or rattling sounds they are definitely duds
Redwing
Can you candle the eggs? that would tell you what is going on. A small torch shone through the blunt end of the egg usint your finger and thumb to block out any escaping light would do the trick If you are positive they were all set under the hen at the same time then it looks doubtful that the rest will hatch (but not impossible!) fertility is related to day length and at this time of year the number of fertile eggs in a batch will be fewer
williamspencer98
So all the eggs aren't going to hatch now But i am more than happy with the pekin chick Maisy-George! I ordered Lemon Cuckoo Pekin Bantams but MG is a chocolate pekin, the seller apologized but anyhow it is so cute! I've just ordered another 6 eggs to hatch of the Lemons, unrelated from a different seller, so I can breed from them. Hatching is a lovely experience! 1 hatch runs in the family though... in our previous house one chicken hatched 1 of about 4 eggs, and my grandad hatched just 1 in the incubator! Hopefully more next time!!! Thanks to my silkies they've been amazing! Non-stop sitting. Im giving them a rest for a few days along with MG. Then moving them into their brand new house+run ready for another 21 days of sitting. It sounds really 'battery like' but there is 2 silkies sitting on eggs each and most of the time they have all 6 under 1 of them at a time and the other one chooses to sit even if she doesn't have the eggs under her! Thanks Pandora and Beaux! Will
