Smart Feeder - Light sensor values

Hi folks,

Just had a pretty gross moment... My chooks were fighting over what I thought was a slug or something... Turns out it looks like a cat had left a bird's carcass close to their run so they were able to get hold of it...and they were very keen to eat it! I removed what I could (it was a grim job) but feel anxious they may come to harm and also whether their eggs are safe as I have no idea how long the thing had been there rotting....sorry for the gross story...

 

Know it's a weird one, but would appreciate any advice. Feel quite surprised how desperate they were for a taste of flesh!!

they are omnivores so its all quite normal....mine will eat mice, shrews,voles, slowworms....

It's normal - chickens are like dinosaurs! They eat mice, frogs, baby birds and small reptiles too and it's their natural way of getting protein for eggs. I wouldn't think they would come to any harm so don't worry about it

Mine were fighting over a dead bird that my cat had left in the garden - I had to get OH to intervene ( )

The girls didn't come to any harm and have since eaten slugs and worms.... No more birds though, luckily!

Mine have developed a taste for cat food! every opportunity they leg it into the house and straight for the bowl!!

Gross... but perfectly normal! Mine love a bit of meat including small birds and mice!
