Dealing with the rat

Recommended Posts

I bought a rat bait station as well as a tub of rat poison pellets. I didn't know whether to get the pellets or blocks; the only blocks I could find were in bit packs, so I got the pellets. I have left the loaded bait station next the compost bin (about ten feet away from the chicken coop) as there are some tunnels going into there, so I thought that would be a good place. Have I done it right by using the pellets?

oh dear  pros and cons for both then!

I use pellets too anyway and i have our dog, the chickens and next doors cat plus all the wild birds in the garden and i have never had any problems with them getting to the poison.

It will take a while for the rats to lose their suspicion and take the poison, but they will eventually. Let us know how you get on :)

I'm using pellets under a disused hen house - the bait is being taken regularly and because the pellets are out of sight, in the dark and under a low building I am confident that pets/birds won't mistakenly take them, although there is always the risk that something like a vole/shrew/mouse will, but thats a risk I have to take. This henhouse happens to be about 10 ft from the compost bins where I think the rat is/was probably living. Something started taking the pellets about 2 days after I put them down.
