TAJ
Yes it is official, last week I was selling 5 boxes of eggs a week as surplus, this week I am lucky to get one egg a day! That's the trouble with pure breeds - once winter starts they all stop laying. Of my 22 chickens 5 have an excuse of being too young (approx 10-12 weeks), then I cannot expect anything from the 2 boys, but the other 15 I think could do better than one egg between them! zakjon-98
2 of my four have given up completely to moult. My buff Sussex is still laying 3-4 a week but my appenzeller is still laying almost everyday. I pretty pleased as they are pure breeds and last year they had given up by now! dance in the dark
I currently have 19 hens in the back garden and am getting two eggs a day. 4 who are too young, one who is plenty old enough but too stubborn to get started. I also have six hybrids, but four of them are getting old (well, they are two and starting to moult) the other two are doing ok, my cream legbars have all but stopped, as have the orpingtons and naked necks (winter layers my foot!!) and the Araucanas gave up several weeks ago. I am sad!
