Sarattie
I know there is a sticky locked thread but the photos are old and are not showing Please can someone tell me how I tell the difference between the 1, 2, and 2.5 I know I can't buy spares for the 1 any more so I don't want to buy one by mistake! I also know the 2 came with wooden roosting bars but can be replaced with the plastic ones And the 2.5 come with plastic If I buy a 2 with wooden bars, how can I be sure it's a 2 and not a 1?!?! Purplemaniacs
The door on the Mark 1 is smaller and the bars come in more than two parts. With the Mark 2 the bars are one long rectangular piece that goes across the back of the eglu and an almost square one that goes at the side of the nest box. In the Mark 1 this part is in two or maybe three pieces certainly not in one piece. I hope that makes sense. Chrissie
Sarattie
That does make sense, but its difficult to tell from the photographs on ebay which model is what. I have emailed a few people and they havent a clue!!
ohcarolina
You can tell by certain features. I've got all 3 types but don't have time to take pics till the weekend.... eBay item 321006762558 is a 1 and gives a clear shot of the smaller eggport door eBay item 290794163017 is a 2 with wooden roosting bars eBay item 190739775364 s a 2.5 with plastic roosting bars Also, the ventilation holes on the front of the mark 1 are slightly different to the mark 2. If you'd like me to send you some pics over the weekend then let me know Caroline
Sarattie
Thanks Caroline that's really helpful. I don't think I'd actually seen a mark 1 as those doors are clearly smaller than others I've looked at. Is there any benefit of getting the 2.5 over the 2 and replacing the wooden perches? I know the 1 is no longer available and cannot get spares for etc. I also debated getting a rabbit one and buying a converter kit as they seem to sell for less?? They really hold thier value good ones go for about £250-£300!
Purplemaniacs
I have bought a new and a new. Then I bought a secondhand which was a guinea loo and converted it. Recently I bought a which was a rabbit one and the person I got it from says that they use it as it is for young chooks and ex batts so I have left it as it is. ohcarolina
Going the Rablu route is an idea but you need to be careful as bunnies do like to nibble so there may be more than just basic wear and tear damage to the run (they tend to shred the plastic covering on the weldmesh which then rusts). Also make sure that you get a Rablu with a 2m run and not a Guinea Pig run which tends to be a metre or thats another £50 for the metre plus door. Descriptions can omit important detail! There are some good bargains to be had depending upon where you live. I have a bit of an Eglu city going on as I'm hoping to get chicken and bunny holidays going at some point which is why i have one of each. If you get a mk 2 with wooden roosting bars you can always upgrade with the refresher pack (roosting bars and shade). Ultimately a tarpaulin is stronger and longer lasting against the elements though. Good luck whatever you go for. Caroline
kentuckyfried
We bought a rablu- it is fine. It would have been ok without converting it for my ex batt girls who all huddle together in the nest box, but I find it far easier to clean now it is converted. Even paying for the conversion though it was still £100 cheaper than buying a chicken one locally.
