mimi5
Hi all, Sorry, but I need experienced chicken keepers advice!! I hatched this year and long story short got 3 girls and 4 boys!! Luckily for me I managed to re-home all the boys and have a few weeks back integrated the baby girls with Monty and their mums! So all 6 pekins are now in the cube with 4 metre run. So on one of the first mornings of them all together I heard a funny sort of crow...as well as Monty's doodle doo!! Thought it a bit odd but wondered if it was a settling in thing? So 3 weeks have gone by and they have just been wormed (so in lock down in the run only last day today!) This morning whilst poo picking in the run before letting them all out there it was again 3 times!!! Monty crowing as well!! But the 3 girls all look like female pekins and I never heard any of them make this noise when they were in their own coop and run??!!! They are 25 and 27 weeks now. Can I have a boy???? Or do I have a confused hen???? What do you think??? Is there anything I need to do?? I'll try and post some pics later ...but need NO1 son to come home 1st!! Purplemaniacs
When I hatched at Easter the pekins were quite easy to sex at an earlyish age. So I would have thought you would have known if you had a boy. Perhaps it is a confused girl trying to be dominant now that they are in with the others? No expert though just my thoughts. Hope someone more knowledgable is along soon. Chrissie
mimi5
Thanks Chrissie. These are all pekins and as you say it's easy to sex boys from early on. There is one of the girls who does have a slightly odd shaped and she doesn't look classic pekin (bought hatching egg) but her face and behaviour all indicate female! I don't have a decent photo of her, but if it ever stops raining for more than 2 mins, I'll try a get 1 to post.
Olly
I'm no expert, but I think photos if you can post them are your best bet! I'm actually going to move this thread into Chickens, rather than Chicken Clinic, because I think you may get more views/replies in there.
