Brooding hen has chicks in nesting box

I put a sheet of newspaper folded up and some sawdust. By the morning the paper has been pulled out and the sawdust is blocking up the hole. Does this matter? What does everyone else use in their nest box?

I have a cube, seal up the drainage hole with duck tape and put sawdust in. Breeder we use ours a feedbag in nest box and sawdust.

Hi, I put newspaper and then straw. The hens spend time moving the straw about bit by bit, it keeps them happy and tidy!

I cut the side off a plastic feed bag for the nestbox of my cube, and use a horse bedding on top. I have a sample sized square of astroturf for the eglu.

i have an old penny glued in some and a circle from a Anchor lid. then sprikle of Aubiose topped with Dixons dustless chopped straw...

I'm another who uses newspaper and then straw. The girls love to nestle down in it to lay and it's so easy to clean as I just wrap the straw in the paper and pull it out. A quick brush out and it's ready for fresh to go down.
