kathrynee
Hi there About a month ago one of our chickens (Ada) had a run-in with our cat (Trilby). We're pretty sure Trilby scratched Ada's eye and we think Ada's inner eye lid was damaged. At the time we bathed the eye and regularly irrigated the eye with saline. She was pretty sorry for herself for about a week, but then seemed to improve and apart from not being able to see very well, got back to normal. However over the last 1 - 2 weeks Ada has been scratching the area around her eye a lot and also rubbing her eye on the ground. She has a little bald patch in the feathers above her eye and the skins seems to be quite red and irritated. She's also started giving off a deep throated clucking and puffing her feathers up a lot - although that maybe when she hasn't seen me move around with her bad eye and I've "surprised" her. Up until yesterday she was laying regularly, dust bathing, competing for food, but she seems to have gone a bit quiet yesterday / today and is spending more time in the coop. We de-loused the chickens and the coop about two months ago. Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions / thoughts? Or ways of reducing the skin irritation? We're new to chicken keeping and I guess I'm just not sure if this is something I should be worried about or not. Thanks in advance.
Tweety
As this has been going on for quite a time, I would take her to the vet to check that the eye is not infected.
