Just thought i would show off OH's handywork. decided almost immediately that there wasnt enough room on the upper floor for the girls, and they hadnt really taken to the ramp as the back shelf was a bit narrow. So got OH to reuse the pallet which the WIR was delivered on, and the base of a table which we have removed the formica top from for our 'new' kitchen worktops. and here is the result:

Also reused an old shower rail to make a perch, its a little bouncy but should hold their weight ok, just have to see whether they use it or not (cant decide if its too high up):

I had a different chair in the WIR for them to use as a step but i decided i liked it too much to watch it get covered in poo so i swapped it for an old patio chair, and i removed the back slats so that the back section has a perch for them now.

they dont use the dustbath as it's meant to be used, Clementine just digs in it so ive topped it up with compost and diatom.

what does everyone think? Arent OH's brill when it comes to building stuff? Not so brill when it comes to loving the Chooks, tho he's been talking to them today

Looks brill. I am planning a mezzanine as soon as we can order a new desk for the home office, as the old one will be the main bit!

Wish my OH was good with building stuff, I've had to do all the modifications in our WIR myself .

the girls love it judging by the amount of poo that was on it when i got home from work! it gives them more room higher up where the sun hits so hopefully they will get a bit of sun over the next few days when its cold but clear. i'd definitely recommend it, although its a bit more tricky poo picking underneath without hitting your head!

I got myself a little short handled rake thingy which is ideal for getting poop out from under benches/tables etc!

thats a good idea, ive got a plastic fish slice thingy which is pretty good though occasionally smears more than picks

That looks lovely - although I confess I love the tinkering and modifications myself, lucky for me OH couldn't careless so leaves me to it!!!

oh i enjoy coming up with the ideas, but i dont have the patience to do the sawing/nailing etc especially if it doesnt go right the first time! i did paint the table top myself, because thats the bit he doesnt like
